David

David

David was born in Madison, went to Edgewood High School, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 2001. But it wasn’t until after he had enlisted in the US Navy and stationed in Charleston, South Carolina that he started his yoga practice. “Nothing has been as transformative to my spiritual, emotional and physical health as my yoga practice.” In 2006, David graduated from the It’s Yoga teacher training program, and stayed in San Francisco studying with Larry Schultz. He is excited to bring Larry’s dynamic sequencing to Madison, and return to the city that he loves. David is currently pursuing a major in kinesiology (the study of human movement) at the University of Wisconsin. Read more about David.

Akemi

Akemi

Akemi is originally from Kawachinagano City (a little south of Osaka), and has enjoyed different forms of movement for her entire life. She started practicing Yoga in Japan in 2004, and took a teacher training in Osaka the next year. Later in 2005, she traveled to San Francisco to study with Larry Schultz at It’s Yoga. She is currently studying Ayurveda and nutrition with the goal of helping to integrate this holistic practice into our school.

Jennifer

A Chicago native, Jennifer came to yoga in the fall of 2005. With a background in figure skating and a passion for sports, a good friend introduced Jennifer to an active form of yoga at Yoga Now in Chicago, Illinois. Jennifer was immediately drawn to Ashtanga’s challenging sequence of poses and the integration of breath with movement. Jennifer spent the next three years building a regular Ashtanga yoga practice while she pursued a career in financial services law. In late 2008, Jennifer found an opportunity for transition. Knowing that she wanted to pursue her passion for learning more about yoga, Jennifer enrolled in Yoga Now’s Spring 2009 yoga teacher training course with Amy Beth Treciokas. Jennifer also participated in the Edgewater studio’s work-study program and remains dedicated to developing yoga on a community level.
